Political Shorties

Shorty #1

No pun intended. As if the money that Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, et al. hoarded is not enough, the Filipino people will now pay to have doctors from other countries flown in to treat her of this rare bone disease that she is suffering from. I like to think it’s not KARMA in layman’s language.

This rather puts the government in a position where: 1. They let her travel abroad (and not surprisingly, she chooses the countries which we don’t have extradition treaty with), spend her own money (which essentially is our money too, given she and her family reek of corruption) and go on happy hiding. 2. NOT let her travel and let the Filipino people pay for her doctors so she stays put and hopefully we live to see justice served. Doubt it.

Shorty #2

The death of Senator Bong  Revilla’s half-brother, Ramgen Revilla turned out to be one scriptwriter’s dream for a plot. It’s so littered with motives that if indeed it turns into an afternoon soap, it will rival Mara Clara and Days of Our Lives. Well, considering how Ramona “Mara” Revilla appeared on her video, I don’t think she will be casted by ABS CBN (since they say they got the exclusive on this). Bad acting. Forgets her lines. Nuff said.

Shorty #3

Whatever is going on with the Maguindanao Massacre proceedings? Are the evidences and witnesses still INSUFFICIENT? That devil’s work happened last year and the proceedings started this year, but seems like it hasn’t much progressed since they started. As I see it, those hideous people involved will rather have themselves hanged by their just-as-hideous balls than be put behind bars.

Shorty #4

And from all these negativity, comes a flicker of positive vibe from no less than Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago. Her proposed Anti-Epal Bill or formally referred to as Senate Bill 1967— “An Act Prohibiting Public Officers from Claiming Credit through Signage Announcing a Public Works Project is backed by the government, the church and the people, who are seriously pissed at these appointed/elected officials who showcase their faces on tarpaulins for their ongoing projects; as though we should applaud them for actually working and giving back to us what we pay them in essence.

I remember this sprawling tarpaulin at the newly-constructed footbridge in Libis last year: “Salamat po, Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo para sa footbridge na ito”. It was so infuriating!

Why in hell should I thank her? I should thank her for at least giving us those bloody footbridges, that women who wear skirts can actually fall prey to perverts lurking under the steps? I should praise her for that effin’ footbridge when she and her entourage have wolfed down a meal worth US$20,000?! It is indecent. It is downright OBSCENE. And I should thank her for those footbridges. Thank.My.Ass.

Now that I got that out of the way, here is Senator Miriam’s light side. Just a breather that I need.

Retain WOW Philippines

I do not see why the Department of Tourism feels the need to change a slogan that works for us in the last eight years. And replace it with something as insipid as this:

So here are reasons why DOT should retain WOW Philippines:

  1. Pilipinas Kay Ganda is too generic, corny, bland, tasteless, hindi pinagisipan, walang dating and every English and Tagalog word that translates to BORING.
  2. It sounds like a game show. Or a morning show for that matter. Umagang Kay Ganda ring a bell????? Do these people even watch tv? Or maybe they’re watching too much tv that it sucked all the creative juices from their brains.
  3. The logo looks like it can be used for a children’s show. Seriously! Outsource if you must! There are better and more creative artists out there than the ones you employ if this is the best they can come up with.
  4. We want to attract tourists to our country. English is a universal language. I don’t think that one needs further elaboration.
  5. WOW Philippines has already proven its appeal to tourists and locals alike. Why change it? If DOT wants to change it, please eat peanuts and other brain-nourishing food so you guys can come up with a MUCH better slogan.

And as what the inimitable Sen. Miriam Santiago said:

“Pilipinas kay Ganda is just ignorant, and ignorance is boring.”

I really love her statement in Philippine Star:

“….Just think of something else. Let’s start some neurons in our brains working. Their neurons are not working. They are not on full eight cylinders. They are on two cylinders.”
