Caffeine Fix at 711

brewed coffee at 711Need a cheap caffeine fix? No, I don’t mean Kopiko candy diluted in hot water…

My brother introduced me to the brewed coffee at 711. It’s got the taste of premium coffee but at a much cheaper price compared to Starbucks, Coffee Bean, etc. Its price ranges from P45 to P55. Ya huh!

The coffee is so delish. They have the Midnight Blend, Caramel Macchiato and Cappuccino. They even have the Hershey’s Hot Choco Loco for those who are not coffee addicts.

No baristas here. Pay up in the counter and they’ll give you the cup lid and sleeve. Go to the coffee machine and off you go.

** Off to enjoy my caramel macchiato now **

Roasted Chiggy’s

The fire that hit the Campos Rueda Building in Makati last June 18 left my favorite resto, Chiggy’s in ashes… huhuhu…. so sad! The best liempo I ever had is soooooooo gone… oh well! They still have their other branches but it’s just too far…

Chiggy’s Jumbo Liempo

My brother recommended a place called Chiggy’s.  It’s located somewhere in the Makati Medical Center vicinity; alongside other cheap restos in the area (heard they have branches in MOA and Quezon City too).

So my good friend and I headed out to Chiggy’s to try out the jumbo liempo that my brother is raving about.

And he is so right! This has got to be the best liempo ever! It’s HUGE, tender and sobrang malasa talaga! Heaven in a piece of meat indeed!

They must have pressure cooked it first before grilling it, that’s why it’s so tender… you don’t even need a knife to slice through the meat; your spoon and fork will already do.

The price? Php99.00 for a complete meal with rice and iced tea! Di ba?! San ka pa?

Just don’t expect too much when you get there. The suki of this resto include call center people who have their gimmicks and inuman in broad daylight. And what a misfortune for us because there were rowdy and boisterous call center agents there… with invectives injected in every sentence they speak. Este hindi pala speak. SIGAW. Aakalain mong dalawang kanto ang layo nila sa isa’t isa kaya kailangan nila magsigawan.

So, if you want a stress-free lunch at Chiggy’s, here’s a tip: Pag pasok niyo pa lang, magmasid na. Pag may naghihiyawang ingliserong ewan dun, just order something for take away and have your lunch in the comforts of your pantry. Wag na kayong mangahas na kumain pa dun.  Other than this, you’ll surely keep coming back for their huge and tender jumbo liempo.

Best Ever Chocolate Cake

Mer-Nel's Chocolate Cake

Mer-Nel's Chocolate Cake

I just tasted the most scrumptious, moist, mouth-watering chocolate cake in my lifetime. I swear! I’m thinking… they probably put some addicting stuff in their cake to keep you craving for more.  It was like heaven came down at 3:30PM today and it tasted just like chocolate!

My taste buds chanced upon this delectable treat because an officemate went to Los Baños, Laguna last weekend and brought this famous chocolate cake from Mer-Nel’s for us to devour.

It was actually in a very sorry state because it weathered the MRT rush hour but it nevertheless tasted soooooooooo good! Suuuuppppper sarap talaga!

It’s just sad that they don’t have a branch here in Manila or even a partner establishment which carries their product.  So if you want a taste of this heaven, (nicely) pester your friends who live in Los Baños or who are planning on going down south for the long weekend and beg them to bring some of Mer-Nel’s cake.
