Christmas Carols With A Twist

It’s the season when we hear Christmas carols played on the radio as early as September and because I care for your sanity (I like Jose Mari Chan’s A Perfect Christmas but I need a break sometimes 😉 ), here are some that do not get airtime. Thankfully so!

Rockin’ Christmas

It’s a weird bed weather Sunday in December and I spent it channel and web surfing and finally saw Youtube’s new look.  I love the traditional Christmas carols but I like it when rock artists do their own spin on the songs.  But this song from Rick Springfield (I think) is an original and made as a tribute for the troops in Iraq. The lyrics are just too heartwarming; made miss my family and friends who are miles away and haven’t seen in ages.  Anyway, hope you enjoy these!

Rick Springfield

Jingle Bells

Skid Row

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Twisted Sister

Song Covers I Love #6

I’ve been meaning to post these ever since I saw them on Youtube but I just had to pace myself so I won’t clutter the page too much. 😉

So far, I have posted mostly covers done by foreign artists; this time around, it’s the Pinoys who take the center stage.

Noel Cabangon – Leader of the Band

(Original artist: Dan Fogelberg)

Just focus on Noel’s voice and don’t mind manong. 😉  But seriously, I find manong cute because he’s just plain unaware that a music icon is just within his reach. He just goes about his business, like… ok, this guy has a good voice but I still want my nganga (betel). 😀

Jose Mari and Lisa Chan – Perhaps Love

(Original artist: John Denver)

I guess I’m really an old soul. I love this guy; he looks like the gentlest guy on the planet and he’s got that voice that will make you feel better when you’re sick.

Aiza Seguerra – Man in the Mirror

(Original artist: Michael Jackson)

She may be considered baduy by some, but this miniscule girl really got the voice and talent many wish they had.

Lea  and Gerard Salonga – Happiness

(Original artist: Cast of the musical, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown)

This is one of my all-time favorite songs. It brings back those childhood memories… back when life is simple because you’re just a kid.

Regine Velasquez – I’ll Never Love This Way Again

(Original artist: Dionne Warwick)

This song just makes me sentimental (again, emphasis on mental :P) and all gooey inside. So yeah, I’m mushy this way. 😉

Song Covers I Love #5

Here’s another hodgepodge of covers unearthed from Youtube.

Reel Big Fish – Take on Me

(Original artist: A-Ha)

I love the punk/ska flavor of this cover.

R.E.M. – Love is All Around

(Original artist: The Troggs :: Popular version: Wet Wet Wet)

I like Wet Wet Wet’s version but REM’s take on this song has that old school vibe that reminds me of Billy Mack’s character in Love Actually.

The Baseballs – Hot n’ Cold

(Original artist: Katy Perry)

This group from Berlin successfully fused the 50’s rock and roll and the current pop into their music. I enjoyed their covers a little too much so I’m posting two of their songs.

The Baseballs – Chasing Cars

(Original artist: Snow Patrol)

Gwyneth Paltrow – Forget You

(Original artist: Cee Lo Green)

She totally rocked this one in Glee… she’s gorgeous and hot. She acts and she sings. Darn woman. ♥

Song Covers I Love #4 (Christmas Edition)

It’s barely a month before Christmas and I can’t help but be excited because my sister’s family will be home for the holidays. Enjoy listening!

Twisted Sister – I’ll Be Home For Christmas feat. Lita Ford

(Original artist: Bing Crosby)

Lovin’ the glam rock vibe of this song.

Olivia Olson – All I Want for Christmas is You

(Original artist: Mariah Carey)

From the movie, Love Actually, one of my all-time favorite movies; very simple yet it hits you right through the heart.

Jon Bon Jovi – Blue Christmas

(Original artist: Ernest Tubb)

Bruce Springsteen – Santa Claus is Coming to Town

(Original artist: Harry Reser and his band)

The Fray – Happy Christmas (War Is Over)

 (Original artist: John Lennon)

and my most favorite Christmas song:

Lea Salonga – Grown-up Christmas List

(Original artist: David Foster and Natalie Cole)

Local and foreign artists alike have done covers of this song but for me, Lea’s version easily tops my list. Regine Velasquez’ take on this song is well worth listening too.
